Back in 2021 – Nat wanted to know enough about what wines she liked so she could cope when Connal wasn’t around. He suggested a tour of the world of wine, tasting bottles, to work out what she liked and understanding how to find it in a shop or on a wine list. She told her friends, and lots of them thought it was a good idea, and a number of them joined us on our journey – and the thirsty gang was born.

While our membership may have expanded our aim remains the same – each session, we taste a wine, talk about it, work out if we like it, why, and learn how to find it in a shop, pub or restaurant.

And if you are lucky we drop some pearls of wine wisdom to help improve your drinking.

Buckle up gang, for the first time we are heading beyond our normal supplier to an independent wine merchant based up North – but you don’t have to cross the Thames, let alone learn what a barm-cake is – they do national delivery.

This season we will look at modern winemaking – that means under the radar varieties, value in France (sacre bleu!), natural wine and low sugar affordable fizz.

FAQs

  • First and Third Thursday every month. Sometimes we take August and December off. Sessions are arranged in ‘Seasons’ of 6 sessions/wines.

  • Thirsty Thursday in online, via Zoom, members / subscribers are sent the link and password in advance

  • The wines for each ‘season’ (a set of six sessions) are shared in advance along with instructions on how to buy them. Wines are sourced from merchants in the UK that can do national delivery. Local alternatives are suggested for international subscribers.

  • Wine: We aim to select wines across a season for an average cost of less than £15. There may be more or less expensive bottles across the sessions, but we have kept to this average and sometimes well below it so far.

    Subscription: Join the Thirsty Gang by subscribing to the next season (set of 6 wine tastings) for just £30 per household (max 2 people).

  • Purchase a subscription before the start of the next season - see the SHOP page - and we will send you the wine list, instructions and zoom details.
